How are review summaries written?

Updated · For shoppers

A store with 5 or more published reviews gets a summary at the top of its page. AI writes it from the store's most recent published reviews.

What the summary says

It describes what buyers say about the store, in a few short sentences. It never adds a claim no review makes. When reviews disagree, it says so.

What buyers mention most

Under the summary are the subjects buyers bring up most, such as shipping or customer service. Select one to see the reviews that mention it. Reviews behind this summary shows a few reviews that represent it well.

When it changes

We check every night for new, changed, or removed reviews, and rewrite the summary when we find any. A review that is no longer published drops out of the topics right away.

Screening

Every summary is checked for compliance before it appears, the same way reviews are. A part that doesn't pass goes through the same automatic clean-up as a review, and a topic that can't be cleaned up is left out. If the summary itself still doesn't pass, the previous one stays up. What does compliance screening remove?

Stores can't edit it

A store can't write, edit, or hide its summary.
