How are reviews matched to orders?

Updated · Verification and publishing

A review is matched once it is confirmed. A star tapped in your review request email is confirmed at once, because the link went only to that buyer. Any other review is confirmed when its author selects the link we email them. A match earns the Verified purchase badge.

What we look for

We check your store's records for either of these:

  • The order the review came from, when it was written from a review request link.
  • The reviewer's email among your customers with orders.

Either one is enough.

Where the records come from

Orders reach us from the WordPress plugin, from the API, or from an import by our team. Which WooCommerce orders does the plugin send? and How do I send orders without WooCommerce? explain each.

When there is no match

A review without a match doesn't get the badge, and it is never published automatically. You can still approve it yourself. Buyers can turn on Verified only on your store page to see matched reviews alone.

There is no way to add the badge to a review we couldn't match.
